RS232 Converteer

Could this TTL to RS232 conversion board be used on the C128? It's on eBay as a kit for $6.99 + $3 shipping.

I bought this guy's switchable XE/XM1541 adapter and it's a quality little board.

Yes, although it doesn't support hardware based handshaking (CTS/RTS) or the DSR, DTR, CD lines. Only Tx & RX pins seem to be wired up on the DB9 plug.

You'll also need to add a User Port connector.

Don't get me wrong, Mangelore, yours is certainly priced right, and when my budget recovers from ECCC I plan on buying one from you, if they're still available. I was really just curious as to how much hardware it takes to make RS-232 work, since his only uses one chip.

I suppose it depends on how you define 'work'.

No worries. It actually can be done with one chip. Maxim have a number of chips available that will do the job. The problem is trying to find a local supplier for small quantities at an affordable rate.  

It was an absolute nightmare for me to find User Port connectors in Australia for my RS-232 interface. In the end I had to order a bunch of them from overseas. I've given up looking for an expansion port connector so that I can add a cartridge pass-through slot to my Stereo SID cartridge and also complete the 3-slot cartridge expander. The only "affordable" overseas supplier I found require a minimum order of 1000 pieces!!! What am I ever going to do with 1000 cartridge port connectors?
