You see 'NOS' and 'MINT' all the time in descriptions on eBay, but it looks like this 'Mint in the Box C128' might just be the real thing. Bidding is already almost $100 just minutes after it was posted. The guy claims he had to break the seal on the box to open it for the photos, and it looks it. Pure white, no fading, all the docs included and pristine.

Simply put, I do not believe anyone on eBay that says they are selling a new (aka NIB aka NOS etc. etc.) Commodore computer. They usually give themselves an out by saying, "it looks new" or "it doesn't appear to be used" but the fact is, they don't know and they're making an unsubstantiated, and most likely false, claim. While the computer may have all the original bits and look to be in superb case, assuming it to be new given the 20-25 year age, is just silly. Unless they purchased it themselves new and put it on a shelf and didn't touch it, it ain't new. Worse yet, many people are posting their stuff as new now because of the ridiculous prices people are willing to pay for this so called "new" stuff. As far as I'm concerned, the sellers are liars and the buyers are idiots. They sort of deserve each other. Do NOT pay a premium for stuff being peddled as new/NIB/NOS!

Disclaimer: Yes, that was harsh. That's because this is a hot-button issue for me and I'm pissed off. Why? Because I bought a few "new" items expecting them to be what the seller claimed they were and they weren't. When they arrived and clearly were not new, I took it up with the sellers who, without fail, refused to acknowledge their deceit.

P.S. Why use TinyURL when you can shorten the link yourself like this?
Call me Golan; my parents did.

I like to use TinyURLs because they work for every long-URL site, not just eBay, and I'm lazy.

As to whether it's new or not, I agree with you about the probability. It's just that this one looks better than most, so I thought I'd mention it here.

If you remember, I posted my view on eBay descriptions in this thread many moons ago.
