This eBay auction is for a 24-disk PD library of programs that are exclusively for the C128: 260177069816

Opening bid is only a penny with flat rate shipping of just under $14.

I'm going to lay back (for six days!) and try to pick these up cheap. If I can, I'll D64 'em and upload them to the file area here.

If anyone wants to bid against me that's fine, but I hope you'll do the same if you win. And, of course, if someone bids way out of my price range I hope that one of you with the big bucks will step in and buy them so they can be archived here and shared.

What's on them? Who knows? The only thing the seller says is that they are from the user's group he belonged to up in Maine. They apparently compiled a set of 26 C128-specific disks, but he's missing #23-24. In all of that, I've got to assume there are many programs we're missing here.

Hopefully, this will provide us a chance to acquire some great new PD software for our machines.

I can't afford to be buying much now, but if you pick them up I'd be willing to split the cost with you. (Well, as long as you don't get into a insane bidding war with Worldlam or something and spend $1300. :P)

Would love to see those go to someone who will see that they're archived and made available to all. There are bound to be some things in there which have never made it to the internet.

I'm hoping it won't go much higher than about a buck a disk, including shipping. That only lets the price go to $10. I'd bid it up a bit over that if I needed to, but I can't afford much right now, either.

I'd be happy to contribute as well.

Not "exactly" PD, but I have a good collection, possibly complete, of Loadstar 128 disks.  Would there be interest here in converting these to disk images and making them available here.  It's been something I've been meaning to do for a while; just haven't gotten around to it.  If there's enough interest, however, I'll get started on it.  :)

I'm also happy to contribute as I won't be bidding as the shipping cost quoted to Australia is US$34.50 :ironisk:

Loadstar is one of the few surviving commercial enterprises for the C= scene and I wouldn't want to see a mass posting of their copyrighted material since their library doesn't even come close to the definition of "abandonware".

I agree with Payton. Fender still sells the Loadstar compilation disks so making the disks available isn't cool.

I had no idea that these disks were still available comercially.  So Loadstar 128 disks are included in this Loadstar compilation, eh?  If so, then I'd have to agree as well.  Honestly, before I aquired this collection of Loadstar and Compute!'s Gazette disks, I had no idea that a Loadstar 128 even existed.

Thanks for the heads up.

Never mind... I answered my own question...  Loadstar Compleat can be purchased here, and it does indeed include all 42 issues of Loadstar 128.

I should have figured as much. You're not 'that' kind of person. I'm glad you gave the link to Ramble House. $23 isn't all that much when you consider how much you get.

Only a half hour to go, and the only bid is a penny by a guy with the handle 'glare64'. Problem is, he's bought dozens of Commodore items off eBay in just the past few weeks, and it looks like he has won 463 auctions. I see no evidence that he's ever sold anything. Sounds like a 'collector', since he's got Amiga, Atari, VIC-20, C64, and C128 wins to his credit. I'll lay low a few more minutes and jump in, but it sounds like he's the type to be lying in wait to bid back. I'll be back up with an edit in a half hour. Cross your fingers!

Edit: Got 'em for $9.25 + $14.10 shipping. Shipping seems a bit steep, but the total cost was about $1 a disk, so that's not too bad. And I didn't come close to my $15 "I'm out" level.

Like I promised, once I get these I'll make D64s and get them to Lance. I hope there's some fun stuff in there! :)

Hey, thanks for reminding me about this...I just bought the "Complete Loadstar" using your link!  Now I will finally have a chance to check out all the Loadstar goodness from disc #1 on!!!!

Well, I haven't had time to get these converted and uploaded, so I'm offering to ship these disks, postpaid, to anyone in the States who is willing to convert them to d64 images and get them uploaded here. I wouldn't expect immediate results, but if six months goes by and they're still not in the library, I will post disparaging comments about you in this thread until they show up. Doing them incrementally is okay.

First to post here and ask me to send them wins. Then PM me with your address and I'll get them shipped to you in a few days.
