Hi everyone,
I am a new member here. I just got a 128 in the past week ( I have used the C64 of and on for over two decades).
Here is my dilema...my oki line printer ( IEC) finally bit the dust.

What do y'all recommend for printing from DOS, in text only? I have an omnitronix deluxe rs232 interface but have never used it. I am assuming that printing from userport requires some more work, and I would like to keep that for serial to Unix machine.
Are used IEC printers ( ebay ) worthwile? Do interfaces exist for IEC->RS232 for line printing?

again,
Hello everyone

Steve, where do you live?

I ask because I have a couple Commodore DPS-1101 daisywheel printers that aren't being used.  They both work, and I have plenty of ribbons and font wheels for them, but printing straight text is really all they're good for, and for that they work magnificently!  But I like to be able to print stuff in GEOS, and for that, they don't work well.  If you want them, you could have them for free.  The problem is that they're VERY heavy, so shipping would be outrageous, I'm sure.  But if you're anywhere near me, you could stop by and pick them up.  I'm in Southern California, about an hour east of L.A.

As for dot matrix printers, I use the Star SL-10C/SG-10C printers on my Commodores.  I'd recommend these if you want a good Commodore-compatible dot matrix printer, mainly because the ribbons are still readily available.  The main problem with most dot matrix printers for Commodores is finding the ribbons.  Some of them just aren't manufactured anymore.

Andrew,
Thanks for the offer!
Unfortunately I am in Texas ( more than an easy drive to La ). I do see that http://www.commodorecomputercenter.com/ lists the DPS-1101 for sale. But I know nothing about that store.  I guess I will keep my eyes peeled on ebay, which is my current source for all things commodore.

That store has been around for years, but I know nothing about its reputation.
The easiest solution is to get an older Epson FX-compatible printer (ribbons still available) and connect it to the Commodore via a serial-to-parallel interface.  Epson FX-compatibles are either 9-pin or 24-pin dot-matrix printers (with an occasional, older laser printer like the Brother).
