Do you insure your collection ?

Here's an interesting question for you.

I've a reasonably nice collection of Commodore gear now, and it would be very hard to replace if it got stolen or destroyed.

How would you describe it to an insurance company to get it covered ?  They'd laugh if I said I want to claim on my insurance cause some 25 year old computer was lost :-)

And what sort of cash value could be assigned to it ?

Mine's under the general house insurance & they are itemised as vintage computers.

For collectibles, you usually count the insurance value as actual documentable auction values (for example, on eBay) times two. And there's no problem declaring 25-year-old computers as 'collectibles' - I'm sure your insurance agent has insured people collecting stranger stuff than that. Check with your agent on coverage, though. Collectibles aren't usually covered under household insurance without a rider.
