Theres been some discussion on the Commodore's inability to deal with speeds above 1200bps.  I used to own one of the 2400 bps modems, and I gotta say, it was terrific.  Not sure how they managed to pull it off, but it definitely was possible. Anyone have any thoughts on these modems and how they managed to get over the supposed 1200bps barrier?

Did you ever measure your throughput? Did you have errors? I never ran above 1200, so I don't know.

Where was that discussion?

I have two of those modems.  I didn't know there was such a barrier.

Still happily modeming with them every so often,

I'm running Borderline BBS on a C64 with a Hayes Smartmodem 2400 on Color 64 software.  I think the problem with some programs running faster than 1200 baud was a software issue.  Color 64 and AA BBS both handle 2400 baud through the user port just fine.  And if you have software that supports an expansion port interface, you can go at even higher speeds.

BTW, for those who haven't read my posts elsewhere, Borderline is now up and running 24/7 via dial-up!  It's the only Commodore-run dial-up BBS currently in operation ANYWHERE, supporting 300/1200/2400 baud, so dust of your old modems and give it a call at (951)242-3593.  International callers, use country code 1.

Very cool - a real dial up BBS.  My C128 isnt conveniently located near a telephone line, but I will have to correct that.  Look forward to checking it out.
