Commodore 128 Desktop

Here's my desktop on my computer at work: 



For anyone else who would like a "Commodore-themed" desktop on their Windows/Linux PC or Mac, I went ahead and made screenshots of the startup screens for various Commodore computers.  They're all TIFF images.  Feel free to use any of these as you see fit:

Commodore 128 40-column
Commodore 128 80-column
Commodore 64
Commodore Plus/4
Commodore VIC-20

c64geezer posted on another forum, asking for a screenshot of a C128 boot screen.  I thought it was a cool idea, so I just decided to take screenshots of a bunch of different Commodore boot screens for use as wallpapers...  Nice way to show your Commodore pride.

This isn't quite what you had in mind, but there is a program called BootSkin for Winblow$ which makes the startup screen (the one which shows the OS logo as it boots, if that wasn't obvious from my wording) anything you'd like:

There is a guy named SAarge who did a Commodore bootskin. I can't install it on my computer without generating a bluescreen, though. Typical crappy video drivers, no doubt.

Robert's right, you wouldn't see the vertical lines in 80-column mode...  However, there are no vertical lines on any of the wallpaper images that I uploaded because they're copied from WinVICE.

Thanks...  But the Windows startup screen only displays for a few seconds on my computer, so it's not really worth it to me to change it.

I just wish I could figure out some way to have the cursor blinking, but I don't think there's a way to have an animated background image in Windows.  Could be an idea for a screensaver, however.

I haven't done anything with it in years, but Windows has an active desktop, which means you can create a desktop background using an HTML file. With CSS, you could give your C128 screen background a blinking cursor.

In my humble opinion, animated backgrounds suck. They're very distracting and Active Desktop sucks up system resources like... Windows sucks up system resources... :/

Yeah, you're probably right...  Best to just have a static cursor.
