I'm progressively dumping my classic computer related files onto my ftp server.

This is a work in progress, you'll need to check it regularly for new stuff.

It's at ftp://landover.no-ip.com, anonymous access, no password required.

Naturally if anyone wants space on the server, let me know & I'll set you up an account.

Lance,

Any idea when all of the stuff that used to be in the Downloads area will be moved to the FTP server?

I just got my shiny new EPROM burner and I'm particularly interested in some of the ROMs you had that I can't seem to find elsewhere.

Thanks.

Which ROMs are you looking for?

Andrew, the ones I'd like to find that are listed on the old site but don't seem to be on the FTP site are:

geos128roms.zip - GEOS 128 ROM images (okay, just found these at http://members.elysium.pl/ytm/html/projects.html .)

SERVANT4.ZIP - Servant ROM (I see Lance has the four sfx files to create the Servant 4 ROMs, but not the final bin...okay, so I'm lazy.

What I'm trying to say is: Everything I want on the entire Web should be gathered on one easy-to-use web page so I don't have to do any actual work.

Is that too much to ask?  ???

Lance! Now I'll have to find something else to whine about!

(Thanks.)

A working Servant v4.84 ROM, as well as a working KeyDOS v2.3 ROM, are both available on my website at http://cottonwood.servebbs.com/wiskow ...  Lots of other "goodies" there, too.  ;)

Thanks, Andrew. I'll go check it out and will snag the Servant ROM for sure.

Burned my first EPROMs last night, so I'm stoked. Haven't had a chance to test them yet, though they read okay in the burner. What did I burn first? JiffyDoS for C64 and 1541, and Attack of the Mutant Camels. (Now I need a blank cart to try that one out in - I see there's a switchable dual cart on eBay for $12 + shpg.) Servant is certainly next, though what I really want to do is start experimenting with custom Kernals. :)

Oh, and I programmed my weird battery-backed 32K static RAM with a copy of C128 BASIC. It's a 28256 pinout equivalent; I'd really like to wire this into the internal ROM socket of the C128 with a write line patched in, but I haven't checked pinouts yet. (And, of course, I'd wipe the BASIC as it would be unnecessary - that was just a test to see if it worked with the EPROM programmer, and it apparently does.)

It's a great feeling when you finally get it all figured out, isn't it?  ;)

Just to give you guys a laugh:

I erased all my 2764s in the UV timer thingie, then hooked up the EPROM programmer to the PC via the parallel port and plugged in the USB cable for power. The tester said I've got no hardware. :(

After bugging around with the manual and the tester, I finally figured out that my BIOS setting for the parallel port has to be set to EPP to work. Okay, then it works; the hardware is present.

I stick in an EPROM, set all the settings, write 00's to it and verify and it works! Hooray! Then I try to burn an actual program. Nothing. Nada.

I try chip after chip. They all test burn fine, no matter what bit pattern I try, but subsequent writes fail. I unplug the USB cable thinking I'm not getting enough voltage or current or whatever, and dig up a 12v wall wart with a matching plug. Wrong polarity, so I get out the pocketknife and electrical tape and gender-change the sucker. Still no go.

(Okay, you guys already get what's going on.)

It suddenly hits me (a blinding flash of the obvious, here) YOU CAN ONLY WRITE TO THESE ONCE AND THEN YOU HAVE TO ERASE THEM AGAIN! The test burns have made them unusable until they can be erased again.

So I grab one of the EPROMs I erased but haven't test-burned yet, burn a program and it works fine. Of course. Man, did I feel stupid. I'm glad there was no one there to see how embarrassed I was.

So after seven or eight attempts, I figure it out, re-erase the EPROMS I burned all those zeroes to, and plug the USB cable back in. It all works like a champ.

So yes, Andrew, it was a good feeling (finally).  :-[

hehehehe...  a real learning experience, eh?  ;)

You have to do the "E" before you do the "P" to the "ROM".   :D

Well, I did do the "E" before I did a test "P", but didn't realize I had to do another "E" before I could do the real "P" to the ROM.

Clear? ???
