The VICE team decided to one up Santa Claus and give everyone an early Christmas gift this year. Version 2.1 of the VersatIle Commodore Emulator has been released. A list of changes/additions to this version can be found here and until the VICE homepage gets updated you'll have to download directly from Sourceforge (some versions are also available from Zimmers).

Enjoy.
Call me Golan; my parents did.

"RS232 can use real devices now, too.
To use this feature, you have to specify the COM port used in
  Settings/RS232 Settings like:
  \\.\com1: baud=57600 parity=N data=8 stop=1"

oooooooo!!!!!!!

Yeah, I saw that, too.  Pretty cool...  Now people can call Borderline BBS using WinVice.  :)

And they could concievably run their own Commodore dial-up BBS using WinVice, too.

Isn't VICE the coolest software ever? :)

By the way, does anyone have documentation of the debuggermonitor in VICE, or knows how it works?

I'd love to run my programs step by step in debugging mode :)

Well, it's the coolest thing if you don't have a real Commodore computer, in my humble opinion.  :)

Sorry, no... I didn't even know there was a debugger monitor in VICE.

Agreed! Let's say it's the coolest software ever that doesn't run on a Commodore :)

Press Alt-M or use the File menu to choose "Monitor". Then VICE shows three windows with the registers, disassembly and a monitor. So it really looks like a debugger but I haven't been able to figure out how it works :( Could be a great tool!

Here I´m again.
Do this software allow to write -read a 3.5 disk in  the PC to be used in a 1581 later?
thank you !

SmallCleverDinosaur

VICE is an emulator that emulates most Commodore machines on a PC (and other platforms). With it, you can use most of the utilities and play most of the games ever created for the Commodores.

However, it's not designed to read and write 3.5" discs in the PC's discdrive.

Did you see what I wrote regarding that issue in this thread?
