I finally got hold of a 2031s drive.
I've been looking for one of these for years now, there are very hard to find in Europe.
Unfortunatly the former owner did not take very good care of it.
He spilled some sort of aggressive liquid on and into the drive.

Got the drive working again !
The liquid that dripped onto the print was quite aggressive, so I had to replace a lot of components.
The state of the casing however is worse than I first estimated, the liquid has litterly eaten tru the casing.
Getting the casing respectable looking again is going to be more work than it was getting the drive working again :/

Does anyone know of a disk copy program for the a PET machine like the 3032 I'm now using, in combination with a 2031 drive?
It doesn't need to be anything fancy, I just want to be able to make some backup copies of floppies without using the PC.

Very hard to find, eh? I sold two non-working 2031's (well, one used to work for a few minutes before a capacitor blew) to my friend for a low amount, about $80 for both. I'll ask him if he got to repair either of them.

I also do own one fully working 2031, but I'm intending to keep it. :-)

I suppose you were not part of the cbm-hackers mailing list in 2005-06 when I first posted about my findings? Because I can't remember anyone looking for a full-height 2031 back then. A few people asked me for a 2031LP though, which would be a real gem to find. I serviced a couple of handfuls of requests at really low prices (excl. expensive shipping, but that's life).

On the other hand, you got a bit of work to do and gained experience which is better than if you had bought a fully working, nice looking unit to begin with. :-P

No I was not, but I am now

Anyway, I finished this little restoration project.
It's almost like new..
