Help getting software from d64 to PET?

Hi everyone,

A while back I restored my PET and got a tape drive to load up some tape software and it worked well. Now i'm trying to do some more stuff and would love to find a way to get programs that are on .d64 format disks over to the pet somehow..

Anyone know how I can do this? I keep reading about adapters that dont' look like they're available anymore and various cable configurations...but I'm not real knowledgeable about the commodore gear...just started my computer usage on a PET and wanted to get it back on track! Any help is appreciated!

First of all, which PET do you have? Second, do you have a PET disk drive, e.g., 4040?

All I have is a C2N beige tape recorder - that's it...no other commodore drives/etc at the moment. It's a PET 2001 Series.

There are programs out there that take a Commodore PRG file and convert it to WAV. Then you can play the WAV file through your sound card and record it to tape, which would then load in directly.

This may sound odd..but have you heard of any devices/cables/adapters that will allow me to simply go from the audio port on the wav card to the PET's cassette port directly? I'm wondering if I can bypass the 'record the output to tape' step by simply converting the files to wave, throwing it over to an MP3 device with a mini analog audio output and type my 'load' commands on the pet and hit 'play' on the mp3 player...

Did a similar thing on an Apple IIe to load programs off my ipod utilizing the IIe's cassette input jacks..but these were already meant to be 'audio input/output' jacks...obviously the PET is a different connector...but i'm not familiar with whether the cassette connector on the PET is simply a fancy connector for 'audio in/out' and some other functions or if it can easily be 'hacked' to do this other route...

I have tons of old tape drives lying around here.
Mail me your address and I will cut off the cable and send it in an envelope to you.

When it comes to converting disk images, I believe I had most success with cbmconvert by Marko MÃ¤kelÃ¤ et. al. Software wise, any programs for the 80 column PETs (8032) probably will work? If you own a 2031, 2040, 3040, 4040 disk drive, floppies written on a 1541 using a X-cable are readable. I find this the most convenient way of transferring software, next to my C2N232I of course. I believe Marko recently wrote he has a new batch of those, for anyone interested.
