Currently the C64 section is a collection of sub-forums under 'other Commodore 8 bitters".

Trying to get a feel from the members as to if this should be expanded to a full category the same as the 128 & PET sections.

Voting is open for a month and I'll go by the majority decision - it's a community after all :)

Comments are welcome in this thread.

In principle, there already are other forums dedicated to the C64. Many of us already frequent those forums, which makes me wonder under what circumstances I'd post C64 related posts on this forum. Already today you have subsections to the C64 which probably is fine, but for a C128 + PET/CBM-II forum, all of the C64, VIC-20, C16 and Plus/4 actually are "Other Commodores". Compare to e.g. Lemon64 and Denial which both sort off-topic machines separately. Or for that matter CSDb which as far as I know to this day doesn't even accept demos for other 8-bit Commodores than the C64/128.

I suppose the argument for a slight rearrangement of sections would be to make this forum an all Commodore place, an area where all 8-bits from KIM to C65 have an equal place to be discussed. Actually I don't know if there is any forum where the Commodore 65 would be entirely on-topic, but then again it is mostly a collector's item so perhaps not high demand to get technical and programming discussions about.

I'm not even certain there's anywhere (beyond a few lists) that KIM's are discussed either :)

How about the CBM 900, would that go into the off-topic section since it is not even an 8-bit machine? :-D I won't bother asking about the Amiga since it is obviously out of scope. Perhaps what you want to add is a section "Prototypes and others", which would handle KIM-1, C65, Commodore LCD and anything other hard to categorize that might pop up. I suppose D128, TOI and Educator would sort under respectively CBM-II (or C128), PET and C64 although it is not entirely the truth.

Oh well, sorry for drifting off the topic. Perhaps one reason to promote the C64 section would be that people on this forum are nicer and more forgiving when helping eachother than people at other forums sometimes tend to be, those who have a slightly superior approach to it all.

Amiga is definitely off-topic :)

Your suggestion around the odd-balls has merit though.

And that's one of the things I'm pretty happy about with this forum - apart from a couple of incidents, the infighting & nastiness that seems to occur elsewhere hasn't happened here.

The VIC20 forums are the same - nice & friendly. I suppose there are less people interested in the machines we & they support so it becomes a "closer" community whereby everyone knows each other - the 64 community is much large and as a result lacks that closeness.
