I'm now the proud owner of a non working Commodore 8296.

Once I have it I'll get more photos and then attempt to debug the issues (probably with lot's of help from here of course!).

These machine are bloody rare here in Oz, I've been waiting over 10 years to get my hands on one!

Congratulation!  :)

It is a wonderful device. I have two, a 8296 and a 8296-D.

It is not so rare to get here, but most of the 8296 I have seen are damaged. And most of this only have a PLA problem (UE5 and/or UE6). Good to know this PLA is simply to replace now!

Hopefully (apart from the missing keys - anyone know a source ?) that's all that is wrong with it.

Ok, here's the first images.

This was a flying visit home so didn't get a big chance to do anything with it.

Definitely doesn't power up and there's no hum from the power supply - didn't check the fuse.

It is very filthy, looks like it has been in a garage for some time so needs a good clean before anything else.

Hydrophilic

Neither the case nor the PCB look filthy in the photos.  Did you have a chance to clean them up first?  The PCB is interesting because the edge connectors all look aluminum / tin except for the one near the power supply, which looks gold.
I'm kupo for kupo nuts!

Trust me, they are - the photos are off the camera phone in less than ideal light. When I get back home in a couple of weeks I'll use the camera to start getting better pics.

The missing keys are the bother, these are unlike any other C= machine I have so may be difficult to replace.

I've never seen one.  I figured just about all of them were decomposing in landfills.  :)
x86?  We ain't got no x86.  We don't need no stinking x86!

Looks like a linear power supply.  These are usually pretty easy to fix, as they are very basic in design.

Let me check the fuse first - been caught out on that before!
