if you can use a x1541 cable + 1541 drive to transfer .d64 files to the disk  Then can i just use a 5 1/4 inch drive to transfer files to the disk because where i live i cant find the parts to build the cable

If you are talking about using a PC drive, then no. At least, not easily.

If you have a PC drive that can read and write 360K disks, you can save files to that, then use a free C64/128 program called Little Red Reader, or its commercial workalike Big Blue Reader, to transfer your files to a CBM disk. I believe you need two 1541s, though it might allow disk swapping.

Or you could just buy an X1541 cable online. They're on eBay all the time.

Good luck!

You need a 1571 drive to read MSDOS-formatted disks with Big Blue Reader or Little Red Reader. A 1541 can't read MSDOS disks, and a PC disk drive can't read 1541-formatted disks. That's why the X(E,M,A)1541 cable was invented in the first place.

Oops. My bad. I've been using 1571s exclusively for so long it slipped my mind.

Robert, isn't Tiny Yellow Brother for CP/M?
