Sorry ;-) Did a catch-all for both models.....

Hihi

I'm quite liking the 128D actually, it takes up a lot less space than my old C64/1570/64HDD setup, it'll take even less soon once I've done away with the compaq breezeblock currently running it (SLT 386 if you remember those)

Curiously, I never used a C128 in the 80s, although I had a couple of C64s, no disk drive though, £300 at the time for a 1541!

I've seen a few intros that identify that it's a PAL C128, I'd be interested to know how that's done given that I was in C64 mode at the time!

I used to have a 128D - loved it.  Sold it somewhere along the way, and I do regret it.  Right now Im back with a regular 128. Would have been nice if Commodore thought ahead with the internal 1571 and just made it a swappable bay instead that would house either a 1571 or a 1581.

Lol... I thought I saw a bar at the VIC-20, but it was still at 0%.

I wouldnt mind messing with the VIC if it werent for that god-awful 20x20 screen (or whatever it is). Did they ever make an adaptor (software or hardware) to allow at least 40 columns?

Hihi

I'm pretty sure they didn't, the video handling was very odd on that machine, as was the memory for the display, any 40 column hack would probably have involved a memory expansion and a completely new video generator...

I'd have to check my references, but pretty sure there was a 40 column option for the VIc (via software) using modified screen fonts - dunno about 80 colums though.

There are pictures floating around of a prototype Commodore mocked up with an internal 1581 - as well, I'm pretty sure I saw a hardware hack someone did that had a 1581 & a 1571 internal to a 128D.

Actually there was a few different 40 column adapters you could get for the vic20. I personally own 2 different ones and Ive seen others as well. I couldnt tell you how usefull they were from a programmers standpoint but Im sure they would make looking at a disk directory much nicer :)

After owning a C128 for the past few years, I won't go back to using a C64 regularly unless I have to :-)

Regards,

Shaun.

I wonder why C64 owners seem to be more "rabid" than 128 owners ? Size envy perhaps ? :D
