This works on all CBM 8 bit machines from the VIC20 on (dunno about PETs)

SYS PEEK(65532)+256*PEEK(65533)

It works on any 6502 powered machine.  The addresses you are referencing are the hardware reset vectors.
x86?  We ain't got no x86.  We don't need no stinking x86!
