How do you change the "computer type?"  For example, it always shows me as a KIM-1 user.. But I don't even have a KIM-1, much less use one.

You need to post more messages ... the number of forum posts you have done reflects what Commodore type you are ... kind of a "sad-b'stard" scale really :-)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commodore 128, 512K 1750 REU, 1581, 1571, 1541-II, MMC64 + MP3@64, Retro-Replay + RR-Net and a 1541 Ultimate with 16MB REU, IDE64 v4.1 + 4GB CF :-)

The ranks are :

0 - 9 posts Windows user
10 - 49 posts KIM-1 user
50 - 99 posts PET user
100 - 249 posts VIC20 user
250 - 499 posts C64 user
500 -4999 posts C128 user
5000 - 9999 posts C65 user
10000+ posts Amiga user

There's a couple of variant ranks in there as well, but you'll need to get to 'em to find out what they are ;)

I'm also going to build in a "respect" mod as well - basically you'll be rated by other members on quality of posts etc - I'm a cruel SOB at heart!

We currently have 5 users ranked as VIC20 (mystikshadows has the highest number of posts at 158), 6 ranked at PET, 12 ranked at KIM-1 & the rest at Windows level......

cheers,

Lance

Doesn't this encourage "post whoring" (posting barely on-topic messages simply to raise the post count)?

And is there a dedicated forum where we can.... ummmmm..... post those barely on-topic messages? :)

Not really, in general there's a very low signal-to-noise ration on this forum, basically because it has a fairly small & dedicated group of members - I don't need to moderate it either (nor do I believe in heavy moderation). I think I've only had to move two topics, I've never deleted any.

Yup, the 'General Chat' forum.
