15 March 2007 - Commodore once loved for being the gaming computer of the home in the eighties is attempting to rekindle the magic once more. The recently reformed company has announced that it is launching a range of gaming PC's at CeBIT 2007 in Hannover, Germany.

The new models, will range from an entry level machine to one dedicated to extreme PC gaming.

These new gaming beasts are titled the Commodore Cg (entry level), Cgs, Cgx, Cxx (extreme level) will run Microsoft Windows Vista 64 bit operating system including the new gaming interface - DirectX 10.

Each model can be customized from a range of high-end components said Commodore, the units will be shipping with Raptor keyboards and Logitech speaker systems.

Commodore is also hoping that gamers will want to customise the look of their new PC with options to artistically customized each unit to match personal taste. The company said that it would be offering specially selected art including street art, photography, PC game artwork (such as that of GRAW 2) and many other licensed images while fans and artists alike are requested to present their creative works to become the next limited edition C=kin.

This focus on design and personalisation can even be seen in the small details: two multicoloured LED lights inside the fans can be independently controlled to change or enhance the mood with an ambient glow. Meanwhile, a new Ice Cube cooling system provides extreme levels of cooling, reducing the core temperature by up to seven degrees and ensuring optimum efficiency.

Bala Keilman, CEO for Commodore Gaming, commented "The all new Commodore range of PC's will allow gamers of all levels to enjoy the best that PC gaming has to offer. From beginners to professionals, Commodore Gaming ensures that only the very best components are provided to deliver the ultimate PC gaming experience. We also wanted to bring something new to the market, in the spirit of our Commodore heritage, and have worked hard to design a fully personalised product".

Yeah, if you don't mind me saying, this isn't what I wanted to see...I don't need another gaming PC, I wanted a Commodore computer.  if you get what I'm saying.  this is just another PC in a PC infested world.

Great!!! :ironisk:

Another chance for "commodore" to go bankrupt once again.

As a very late entrant into PC gaming scene, I expect the demise to be very quick.:D

Hey, you forgot to mention that every system comes "Preloaded with a C64 emulator, containing more than 50 classic games." (www.commodoregaming.com)

It was never going to be anything else but a PC. I was following a thread on C.S.C. and some of the participants had the idea it was going be another 8 nit or a console. Bit late for what amounts to a start-up company to try & release a new console & as for the idea of a new 8 bit machine.....   seriously folks, what market ?

Still, I gotta admit, I do like the grey/aluminium case with the big C= logo. Possibilities of wacking in an A1200 motherboard & ending up with a really cool looking Amiga!

When I first saw the pics (without size perpective), the cases looked like dorky lunch boxes to me.

Painting your own case is much more fun!  With some skill, it can look quite professional.

Anyone ever paint / customize their Commie.  I thought about it but never did.  I have seen some nice jobs though.

I really don't mind that they're a PC company, but it would be pretty spiffy if they paid real tribute to the Commodore community and offered some support for the older machines. After all, what's the point of using the Commodore name if you're not trying to appeal to the people for whom that means something? They could buy out Maurice, license Mangelore's brilliant VGA adapter, bring together various useful storage, peripheral and networking products, snap up some Amiga accelerator cards, RAM and other useful upgrades, and make them all available in a nice little store for us. :tummenupp:

A guy I met at a swap meet had a 128D that he'd painted red and decorated with a hammer, sickle and star, thus transforming it into a Commie Commie. :D

I didn't follow that thread ;-)...basically, I wasn't hoping for an 8 bit machine, of course not...what I was really hoping is that a bunch of dreamers (like the original gang) create a new computer...secretaly, an Amiga NG perhaps, or something like that...secretaly invest in Amiga OS 5.0 or 6 even something to kill all other OS and GUIs lol...and hit the market head on...like they used to...

I dream of the day there's more than macs and PCs to choose from ... that's all lol...it's getting boring...mac with Mac OS/X, or PC owith windows or Linux...I mean Geez...lol...what happened to choice? lol

Easy answer - there ain't no money in it & any business is out there to make money. The 8 bit and Amiga market is minimal these days. Here's a test - do Apple still support the ][ or the earliest Macs with new products? Do IBM still give support for the PC Jr or the XT ?

Where the original Commodore still around today I doubt very much that they'd be offering support for the old 8 bit machines!

Think about it - do any of the people making C= peripherals these days make money out of the venture ? Enough to build a multi-million dollar international business, or even enough to keep the food on table ?

Our corner of the world these days is just a quiet little backwater & there ain't no money in it anymore aprt from the odd retro-release (ie game sticks that are on the market).

That being said, I'll still be here until someone carts me out in a box

And add to that, yes, if these beasts become available here in Oz, I will be buying one - it'll make a great mass-storage device for my 128 & A1200 & the nice plain metallic one with the big chickenhead logo looks rather cool :)

cheers,

Lance

Hey, this is Commodore we're talking about. To really be true to the Commodore name, making bad decisions must take precedence over making money. :tummenupp:

Speaking of financial history, does anyone know whatever happened to all the CD32s that were seized by the Philippines government when the original Commodore declared bankruptcy? I presume they were eventually auctioned off, but I've also wondered if they might still be sitting in a warehouse somewhere. They've only ever trickled onto eBay, so it doesn't seem like there's someone out there with a large stock. I'm not particularly interested in the machine itself, though I'd probably pick one up if I saw it at a thrift shop or flea market. If I remember correctly, one could even turn the CD32 into a full A1200 with a third party kit.
