He must know a SuperCPU isn't worth that. Looking at his feedback, we can see he's been buying a lot of Commodore equipment lately, so it's not like he's out of touch with the market.

Anyway, at that price, you'd think he could at least offer free worldwide overnight shipping with insurance. :ironisk:

Here's something interesting I came across...  It's the CMD price list from January 2001.  Probably the final price list before they sold out to Maurice Randall...

In this list, you can see that a NEW SuperCPU w/ 16MB RAM sold for US$418.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that Maurice Randall sells the same thing for $379.  Not that you'll ever get one from him...  :/

That raises an interesting question, wiskow. There was talk (read accusations) on another forum that Maurice was making new equipment and passing it off to another person with the intention that they'll sell the stuff on eBay for a premium price (well above what Maurice purports to charge) on his behalf. So far all the items that have been sold for crazy amounts are from known members of the community. It's when an outsider shows up with multiple CMD products that people, myself included, will get really suspicious.

I hate to admit it, but that thought had occurred to me, too. Maurice would have a tough time selling SuperCPUs from his store for much more than they're listed now, but take away that one source for new product and watch how the secondary market shoots up...

I'm sure most of the sales we've seen were legitimate, but I do think people should keep their eyes open.

If I even WANTED a SuperCPU (I can't think of why I would)... the standard price is already more than I'd be willing to pay. I might pay up to $100, but its not like I'd ever use it. The only things I use my Commodores for run just fine on a vintage computer. That seems like kind of the whole point of retro computing.

This is just ridiculous though. Glad to see the auction expired with no takers.

I'm sure it will be back and it will probably sell for half as much (which is still a ridiculous amount mind you). A few buyers have skewed reality. The problem is that others see those auctions and start thinking their stuff is worth that much and then they won't even consider selling their stuff for anything less.
