Some time ago (well, ok, a long time ago....) i posted that I was attempting to get Citadel running under CP/M on the 128. Well, I've had a few "issues" with getting it to answer the virtual modem installed on one of the PC's, then further issues with it failing to keep up outputting to the serial device. However, after buggerising around with BYE I'm pretty sure I have most of the bugs worked out.

I'll start 'customising" the BBBs soonish, then I'll open it for limited testing. I currently can't get the speed to operate reliably above 1200 baud (dropped characters any faster than this) so it'll be slow, but at least it is mostly working ......   watch this space.

cheers,

Lance

I've discovered that TBBS will also work, although it calls for CPM/ 2.2 rather than CP/M 3.0. It will not work under the fast CP/M upgrade available for the 128 & has an illegal BDOS function error when you attempt to run it under anything other than the may '87 CP/M 3.0 release.

Still, TBBS would be preferable rather than Citadel as it's a bit more flexible.

The illegal BDOS function is appearing via BYE so I may try & upgrade from BYE 3.0 to BYE 5.0 & see if that will eliminate the problem, or (being brave) attempt to use the customised version of BYE for the 128.

Stay tuned......

Well  I think it may be working - need a couple of volunteers to be test subjects please!

nikoniko

I'd be happy to give it a go. How did you fix or work around the problem with BYE?

PM your way.....

Ran into some display issues when I hit the wrong button (oops!), but went back and created a different account and took vt-100 that time.

"Change terminal configuration and user settings" doesn't do anything.

Although I can vote in the poll, poll results aren't available.

Tried to reply to your message in the BBS Help area, but when I enter reply mode, every press of the Enter key registers twice, which -- after I specify I do or don't want to change the subject -- ends up sticking me back at the prompt ([C]ubby, [R]eply, [A]gain, [N]ext, or top ?) If I press top, then no longer get anything back from the BBS. If I just do [N]ext though, I can finish reading messages and get back to the menu.

Similar issue if I try to post a new message. It registers the enter key too many times and ends up aborting the new message. Entering text worked fine for signing up and filling out my profile, but so I'm not sure why it has a problem for composing messages.

Weird - which account ? One of your accounts has had some odd flags set, which might be the cause of the problem (my test accounts can change settings & can review polls).

Line editor or FSED ?

Also notice you're using 132 columns, 0 lines - maybe worth doing 80 x 25 (or 24) & seeing if the issues still persist ?

Can I get some other people to try & report back (either here or on the board) ? telnet://landover.no-ip.com

cheers,

Lance

I didn't notice there was a way to switch editors. I'm probably set to FSED since it clears the screen. I'll change it if I can and see if that makes a difference.

nikoniko

Sorry... but how do I change editors? The user settings menu won't come up for me, and I'm guessing that's where I would need to go.

I'll do it for you - but it'll be a few hours (I'm at work at the mo) - which account do you wanna keep ?

Lance

nikoniko

I guess the second one I made would be fine. Can you also change it to 80 columns for me?

The one with th P in it ?

nikoniko

Yep, that's the one. Actually, name-wise I'd rather be P-less, so if the first account can be salvaged and have reasonable settings applied to it, that would be even better.

Ok, kept the P-less one & set it to 80x24, text.

Thanks. That'll probably help, but unfortunately it seems linefeeds are turned off... my own fault to be sure, but I can't see well enough to change it since each line is printing on top of the previous one. Sorry for the trouble.  My BBSing skills leave something to be desired after a decade and a half of atrophy. :/

Lance, I just tried logging on but got a NO CARRIER, is there a problem ?

What are you using to link the BBS computer to the internet ?

I'd say the BBS was cycling, & didn't pick up the "modem" in time.

To connect, I'm using BBS Server 1.3
