I've updated my C128 system information program with the following improvements:

* Improved detection of national Kernal versions (two German versions detected instead of one).

* Improved detection of attached 1581 drives. The version of the disk controller chip (WD1770 or WD1772) is now detected. Information about whether jumper J1 is open or closed is also returned.

I'm grateful for comments regarding the program.

I shall have a play once I've re-assembled one of my 128's :-)
What sort of information does it pick out ?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commodore 128, 512K 1750 REU, 1581, 1571, 1541-II, MMC64 + MP3@64, Retro-Replay + RR-Net and a 1541 Ultimate with 16MB REU, IDE64 v4.1 + 4GB CF :-)

It picks out the following information:

* BASIC version

* Editor/Kernal version (including national versions)

* Character ROM version (including national versions)

* VDC chip revision

* The amount of VDC memory (16 or 64 kB)

* Version of the SID chip (6581 or 8580)

* TV system (PAL or NTSC)

* Whether REU is connected and in that case the size

* Whether SuperCPU is connected (not tested since I don't have a SuperCPU)

* Whether disk drives are connected (devices 8-11) and in that case the models and in some cases model specific information (like ROM version for 1571)

* Information about disk controller version and jumper J1 on 1581 drives. You have to insert a formatted disk to get this information. You get a question first if you want to do that.
