I just wanted to let everyone know of a rare opportunity to own a 1570 disk drive.  I've put one up for auction on eBay.  This drive, which was only sold in Europe, has been converted to run on 110V power.  It works great and is in very nice condition.  Check it out here:

Nice drive. I've always wanted a 1570.

Too bad the shipping costs to Australia from U.S. / Europe cost a fortune.

Besides... It'd be a shame to convert this drive BACK to 220V after I just converted it to 110V...   ;-)

I have three of these things (they were sold here & are relatively common) - Once I've moved (about 6 weeks away) I'll unbox one & send it to you for cost of postage.

cheers,

Lance

Wow! Thanks Lance.

I'll send you an RGBI to VGA converter in return.

Cheers

Thanks for that insight, Lance...  I guess that when people write that things were only released in Europe, Australia is also included.  Perhaps New Zealand, too, eh?

One of the things that is often forgotten is that Australia was considered by Commodore as their best market. Market penetration for the brand was higher here than anywhere else (just about every computer shop in the days sold Commodore stuff). We were also the first market to get the SX64 as well.

Mind you, the C128 was nearly aborted here. The manager of Commodore (Australasia) Pty Ltd famously threatened to rip out the Z80's if any of the "abomination hybrids" were unloaded at the Lane Cove headquarters.

Aww... well that's disappointing...  I had this vision of a crazy Aussie on a pier, ripping chips out of computers as they were offloaded from a ship...  :skratta:
