It sounds like CIA #1 failed.  No flashing cursor means the jiffy IRQ isn't happening, and that is generated by CIA #1.  Without the IRQ, there's nothing to scan the keyboard and joystick ports.

I see.  I have just opened the case and checked the inside of the C64C and found the 6526A chip but unfortunately it is soldered onto the motherboard and while I might be able to solder a wire or two together, I know I'm not skilled enough to replace the chip.  I wish the chip has a socket like most chips for the Amiga that can be easily be pull out and replace.

I guess I will check eBay for a replacement sometime next year.

Thanks for the info.

Hiya, I have a question about a Commodore 64C which I have recently acquired from an eBay auction.  I got the machine a while back but just  got it out recent and boot it up since I didn't have a 1541 at the time.  Anyway, I started the machine up several times and it was working fine, with the command prompt cursor blinking and able to load in command for the 1541 drive but without any software I didn't do much else and packed it back up.  After a month or two later I finally got around to get some software for the machine and I loaded up some games like Ms. Pac Man and Kung Fu Master just to test it out.  After playing Ms. Pac Man for a few mins, the machine suddenly crashed.  I thought, ok, no biggie and turned the unit off and waited a few seconds before turning it back on and that is when I first notice the regular blue screen appeared but with no blinking cursor.  I tried typing in command like loading a directory, or load anything but it wouldn't response.

One thing I did notice.  I can plug in a cartridge and the 64 would load up the cartridge (Omega Race, Kickman etc.), but I couldn't get it to response to any joystick command.  So my question is this, can the 64 be fix in the form where a chip can be swap out?  If not then I guess I'll just junk it.

Thanks for any info.

Yes, I can.  In the past, I've shipped to England, Germany, the Netherlands, and the Czech Republic.

Well, just a note, the seller did returned the whole amount so the dispute is now close.  On the other hand, now I'm in the market a Commodore 8bit system and a disk drive.  Do you have a listing of what you're selling?  Let me know if you do.

Thanks.

Well, today I finally got a reply from the seller saying after moving to a new place, he has no electricity, no internet so couldn't check email...  and say he will ship it tomorrow plus extra games as bonus.  Well, I was going to file a refund request through paypal tomorrow but will now hold a few days before doing so.  Honesty, unless the person lives in a remote area and don't have cell phone, he could have access his cellphone to check on his email (especially if his email is from comcast.net).  I also read his previous feedback and while almost everybody gave him high mark for transactions, the transit times are usually pretty long.

Either way, just be an extra caution if you do see future Commodore product from this person.

Thanks and if this doesn't work out, will check with FCUG.  :)

On 1/31/09, I won a bid to a C128 plus 1571 drive for about $101 with shipping from seller cldrnbrn13.  Thinking of getting back to the world of Commodore 8 bits just to relive my youthful time.  Unfortunately it didn't happen.  After more than a month, I still did not receive the system and multiple email did not get reply.  I have just filed a dispute with Paypal and try to get my money back.  Hopefully it will resolve quickly but just a beware for everybody who buy parts from eBay for their Commodore system to stay away from buyer if he place the system for sale in the future.  Honesty, I don't mind the wait but not replying email about inquiry on the shipment is just wrong.

Thanks and sorry for the rant.

How about connecting a cellphone like a Blackberry or a Pocket PC based pda phone onto the C64 and use the service's free nights and weekend mins?  I remember connecting my old Blackberry 7120 (later a Motorola Q Global) to my laptop and use the cellphone's internet access for the laptop to access the internet.  If there is a device that allow you to connect the C64 through serial to a mini usb plug (which a lot of pda phone uses that kind of jack), perhaps there is a way to get the cellphone to function like a modem?  That way, most cellphone service's nights and weekend mins are usually free and won't have to worry about long distance charge.  Well, just a thought anyway.

Thanks for the info.  I saw one in eBay and going to pick it up.  The XE1541 is exactly what I'm looking for.  I appreciated the info greatly.

A question, is there a program or device for the PC that will allow you to transfer d64 images back to a floppy disk so you can run it on the C64/128?  I just got a whole of a C128/1571 drive from eBay (waiting for shipping) and looking into method in trying to convert images back to disks so I can run it on the actual machine.  I saw the C64TPC on ebay but didn't really look into it since it didn't say anything about having the ability to convert d64 images back to floppy disks.  Can it be done? or should I just get something like that and hook up a PC (which I have plenty of) to the 128 so I can load the images?  It also say it doesn't emulate the actual drive's cpu so not every program/game will work I presume?  Thanks for any info..  The last time I used a Commodore 8bit machine was a 64c back in 1992 so it has been a long time.  lol

Thanks.
