Long has been the dream of multiple VIC-20 games on one cartridge.  Years ago programmer Ward Shrake envisioned and built himself a cart with dozens of games, all selected by dipswitches.

Fast forward to 2008.  VIC-20 multicart projects go on.  For the past months, two different multicart projects have been in development.  First out of the gate into the commercial arena is the Behr-Bonz VIC-20 Multicart.  With hardware by Eslapion and a game selection menu system by Viande of Denial, the Behr-Bonz VIC-20 Multicart contains 127 games which originally were on separate carts.  The following games are on the Behr-Bonz:

I wouldn't mind seeing the same selection on a multicart for the C64, at the same price. :)

I have received a correction from Eslapion; though he lets me pay in US dollars, he normally requires *Canadian* dollars.

Not so difficult to produce a c64 cart of the same size - its just that the games are a whole lot bigger and so youd get less on there :)

This is not necessarily correct. While some of the Vic-20 games listed are 16K, many are only 8K in size.

In the configuration that Eslapion is using, each game is allocated a 16K block of space in the ROM chip.

This allows for 127 games + one 16K block for the menu system.

A more versatile (but yet to be released) cartridge, is the Vic-20 MegaCart.

It features RAM expansion (with multiple menu selectable configurations), custom music (menu selectable based on user's preferances), and over 260 games + utilities to choose from.

My cart was mailed out last Wednesday, and I received it today!  Hooray, the postal service is not slow for once.  I will demonstrate it at this Saturday's TOGA meeting and this Sunday's FCUG meeting.

Great!

Does the cart have gold edgecard connector, or is it tinned?

The posted photos appears to show a tinned edgecard connector, but perhaps that was pre-production unit.

After the Commodore Scene meeting of June 24 in Preston, England, Shaun Bebbington handed over a very low serial-numbered PAL VIC-20 to me.  The two-pin power connector looks different than the one used here in North America, but I will bring it back.  If I can get it to run, then it will be at CommVEx v4, running the PAL version of the Behr-Bonz games multicart.

Probably saying something you already know .. but do remember the power differences between UK and the US ... don;t want to get all excited and plug your Vic-20 in only to have it die a horrible death :-)

Actually what does happen when you plug a 240V device into 110V ?  it is death ?  Or nothing ?  I know 110V in 240V does interesting things :-)

No problem.  I'm just bringing back the keyboard, no power supply.  I will connect a North American p.s. to it.

I met up with Eslapion when I was in Montreal last month.  I gave him a couple cases of Mountain Dew from the U.S. (it doesn't have caffiene in Canada), and he was nice enough to show me and my family some of the sights of Montreal.  He also gave me one of his Behr-Bonz Multicarts.  I finally got a chance to set up a VIC-20 and try it out a couple days ago.  I'm VERY impressed!  It'll be a permanently installed cartridge in that particular VIC-20.  :)

I suppose you got the NTSC version, right?  You know, even the PAL version when used in a NTSC VIC-20 is not too bad display-wise.

Biodome?  I thought the only Biodome was near Tucson, Arizona.  Many years ago my uncle brought me to the Arizona Biodome.  Too bad we were not allowed to enter; we could only tour the grounds.

I think you're thinking of the Biosphere, which is a completely different beast.  The Montreal Biodome (Biodôme de Montréal) was originally constructed for the 1976 Olympic Games as a velodrome. It hosted both cycling and judo events.  Now, as the Biodome, it's a huge indoor zoo, where you walk through different ecosystems amongst the animals.  As far as I know, it's the only one of its kind.  I did go to the Nagasaki Bio Park while I lived in the southern part of Japan, but that's different because it's outdoors.  Of course, an outdoor version wouldn't work well in Montreal due to the freezing temperatures in the winter.
