Hello, I am new to this forum and have a question considering my Commodore 128D.
I have my commodore 128 (PAL) hooked up to a commodore 1084S monitor using a self-built cable. I haven't used anything between it (like capacitors or resistors). The picture is steady, but horizontally on the picture the colour brightness differs (in a certain interval). It seems it needs a capacitor (or it's counterpart, what's it called again?) on the Luma line I think...
Any thoughts?

I'm not shure (you should show us a picture of the screen) but I think:
Unfortunately you did it well...  (There is no need for a capacitor in the cable.)
The VIC III isn't really perfect and you will see vertical lines on the screen (brightness differs) all 8 pixels.
Play with brightness, colour and contrast to optimize the screen output.

This was my first thought, too...  But he did say that he was getting horizontal lines, not the vertical lines that are common on the 128 display...  So I'm at a loss for what could cause that...

Yes, the effect is indeed that it delivers vertical bright lines. Actually, I noticed also (very vague) vertical red lines.

Ah... well, in that case...  Those are on every Commodore 128, unfortunately.  I guess you could call it an inherent defect.
