Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know I finally figured out how to get VICE to run Image BBS. Next steps is to get the various verions of C-Net and C-Net 128 running it as well.  I have a stock system running now at:

74.51.1.199 Port 25232 (yes obscure, but this is really just for you guys to see it working)

Its pretty simple and requires no hacking to VICE.  Just a custom +.modem file, and a bridge program to answer calls and forward them to VICE.  Feel free to check it out.   No gaurantees on availability though, as I dont have a dedicated box to run it from.  (any takers?)  If interested, Ill put up the D61/D81 images and bridge program for people to play around with.

Thanks

I also found that Dave over at RetrogradeBBS has had a working version of Image for VICE, but one of the issues he had was with users disconnecting.  The new +.modem file should cover that problem as well.  Im gonna take his D82 images and see if I can get them working with my code.  I didnt have much luck with 2400 baud (mine is 1200 only), but I didnt try very hard either.

Nice work. I'd be interested in seeing the custom +.modem file, and bridge program.
Call me Golan; my parents did.

Ok, will zip them up and send tonight.  You know, if it weren't for the effect on the clock, running Image in "warp" mode is pretty darn nice ;)

Got a bit delayed.. came down with the flu which spread through the house like wildfire... WORST case Ive ever had... whew.. Am doing better now though.   Ill still get this updated and sent soon though.  Meanwhile, Ive updated the link via dyndns, as:  commodoreworld.servebbs.net (port 23).

I've been out off and on with the flu for FIVE WEEKS now. Came back again yesterday and hope I'm finally done with it.

What is with this one? It's KILLER! :(

What's one more dead dinosaur? :)

Besides, you've already been told: you can't croak until you finish all of your unfinished projects around here.

Do you still have the +.modem file or roms of the image setup?

I'm running tcpserv4j with winvice (tried vice on linux too) and I can get image to load but it isn't going to the idle screen.

Could you share how to set this up?

Thanks

Im doing this by memory, so feel free to contact me if you have trouble.  Attached is a D64 that contains the appropriate +.modem file.  (copy it and rename it to +.modem on the system disk).  It should work then as-is.  Also, you will need the ZIP'ed file I included that acts as the bridge program (you wont need TCPSER4J - this program does the work instead).  Note that this prog is a .NET program - go on ahead and make sure you have the latest .NET framework installed (3.5)

Good luck!

I've got it almost right with the files you gave me! thanks a lot for sending those.

Here's what I'm running into. Image comes up to the idle screen (I'm using 1.2a). I can connect via either ccgms on another system running vice or cgterm.

The terminal program connects and I see all ascii characters in the image window; however, in ccgms or cgterm, I see junk. When it finally gets to the image banner, it disconnects on the terminal side but stays connected on the server side.

Thanks again for your help!

Hmm.. interesting.. sounds like a baud rate issue, but that doesnt make sense.  Let me see if I can replicate the problem.  Will let you know what I find out.

corecrash

It was a baud rate issue. I changed the setting in vice to 1200 and that works. It was set for 2400.
