I bought a 128 function ROM with this utility in it, but the damn thing didn't come with any instructions for the software. I Googled for almost an hour, but all I could find was some guy who'd sold one a few years ago claiming that the instructions were "easily Googled". Gah. I've written to the eBay store who sold it to me, but who knows when I'll hear back. Help!

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a Turbo Assembler for the C128. This ROM is the greatest hoax in the history of the C128! It claims to be a C128-mode function-ROM (or at least the guys who sell it claim that), when it's infact a C64 software!

It's initialized in the C128 reset sequence, downloads itself to RAM and then switches to C64 mode. In order to activate it, hold down the control key while the C128 resets.

The Assembler itself is Turbo Illasm v3.0, check this site for some info. A very brief description of the ROM can be found here. I've not been able to find the real manual though :(

If you want to try the ROM in VICE (or burn the file on an EPROM) you can download it here.

I'm sure that the creator of this ROM had the best intentions in mind when creating it as a C128 function ROM that switches to C64 mode, but it's sad that people on ebay markets it as a C128 function ROM. Hopefully they do that unintentionally because they don't actually know what they're selling.
Ignorance is a precious thing. Once lost, it can never be regained.

If you want to write ML code on the C128, then you should buy a Megabit 128 Internal ROM Adapter. It has Merlin 128 macro assembler built in (along with a few other programs) and the manual in pdf format on CD that comes with it.

The site should offer CD's or DVD versions but so far downloading is extremely fast

I looked around the site after my post and found the link. I also emailed the guy and will be sending him some manuals to items I no longer own or use. I do plan on buying his CD's of old magazines, that alone will clear out 4 shelves in my house.
One day I need to go through my boxes of obsolete commodore gear and duplicate hardware/software.
