Can somebody with experience with fixing 1571 drives from C128DCR help me please? Here is description of failure:

1. DIRECTORY command gives only garbige on formated disk
2. disks formated with HEADER are not readable
3. disks in 1541 are readable in c64 mode but files are not loading correctly

I'd grateful for any tips. Thanks in advance...

Have you tried cleaning the heads in the disk drive first?

Since my cleaning disks are long time gone any tips on how to clean it the best way?

rogueclown

i've done it with Q-Tips and 91% isopropyl alcohol.

Don't use rubbing alcohol, though. It has oil in it, and that's bad. Real bad.

Thanks for the tips guys! I have another question as I got another C128DCR with fault step motor obviously. Did anyone ever tried to swap step motors between drives? Secondly is there any chance of resurrecting broken step motor?

Not really once broken their normally a throw away. :( you can replace them with another,
but you will need to realign the drive.

What country are you in, i am in Australia maybe someone has a mechanism to trade or sell. :)
